One two-month voyage circling the Australian Coast was terminated following the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a remote tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the party for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and went back after some time after the crew discovered the lady was missing.

A large-scale hunt found her body the following day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, together with investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that passengers and personnel on the ship were told that the remainder of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that guests would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also published an revised communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" preventing any further travelers from getting on the vessel.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in the Australian city upon its return.

Sequence of Incidents

The ship first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's passing. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Passengers on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of currency to take part in the voyage - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of hiking or snorkeling.

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an scheduled excursion without my parent".

In her statement, she described her mother as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a member of a bushwalking club.

"According to scant facts we have been provided, it seems that there was a breakdown of responsibility and basic judgment," she stated.

She continued that she wished the examination would be able to identify what "the organization should have performed that might have protected Mother's life".
